Past History

Hometown: Leadville, Colorado, United States
First Memory: His old dog, Hercules, staring at Damien for a while before licking his face and protectively curling around his new master.
Most important childhood event that still affects him: His father, a firefighter, died saving a young girl in a freak firestorm inside the Delaware Hotel. The fire had started from a lazy chef who had neglected his cooking.
Why/How?: Damien grew up wanting to protect all those that surround him, regardless of whether he knows them or not. However, he absolutely despises laziness or negligence to details, and will often berate himself or others should he see someone falling into such actions.
Past failures he would be embarrassed to have people know about and why: When he was 10, while trying to show off how brave he was to a girl, Damien jumped off the roof of a house and subsequently broke his left leg. While the break healed cleanly, at the time the bone had cut through the skin. Now, whenever anyone asks about the scar, Damien gets flustered, as he is embarrassed that he was (and probably still is) stupid enough to risk life and limb just to look good in front of a girl.
Biggest role model: His father.
Why?: Though the man died early in Damien’s life, he always looked up to his father as a model for morals, as well as what kind of man he wanted to grow up to become.
Biggest disillusions from childhood: No man is invincible- not even the ones we love.
History: Damien was born to a rather middle class family just living it out in Leadville, Colorado. They didn’t have much money to go around, but unlike many families, they cared for one another, and what they had was enough for them. It also helped that Damien’s father was a firefighter, which meant that whenever Parent’s Day rolled around, Damien always won the ‘coolest father’ title from his friends. Things went on pretty normally until age 10, when a negligent cook forgot to check his pot, and ended up creating a grease fire that consumed the famous Delaware Hotel. After everyone had been evacuated, a whimpering cry was heard from the third floor, originating from a little girl who must have been overlooked during the original sweep. Without thinking, Edward Lier plunged back into the inferno, looking for the source of the sound. Endless minutes passed, Damien staring in shock, no one able to remove him from the scene. Finally, a man wreathed in smoke and fire, his coat bulging, stepped out from the inferno. Damien cried out in joy, seeing his father alive. Taking a few tottering steps, Edward Lier approached the ambulance, unzipping his coat, revealing a tiny Arabic girl, no more than 9 or 10. However, the strange part of all this was that she was wearing a smog mask. Looking up to his father in horror, Damien saw that he had given the little girl access to his oxygen tank, forcing himself to breathe in the smoke instead. After handing over the girl to the paramedics, Edward Lier collapsed.

Having rushed the pair to the hospital, Damien and his mother waited though the night, hoping that somehow their beloved father and husband would pull through. The news came with a forlorn doctor and a sad shake of the head: Edward Lier had finally succumbed to smoke inhalation. Damien became withdrawn as a child from that point onwards, especially detesting Eve, the little girl his father saved, whom he blamed for his father’s death. Despite being brought up knowing better, Damien eventually came to blows with the little girl, and subsequently had his ass handed to him. Wondering just how he had been shut down by a girl half his size and weight, who somehow managed to inflict wounds that looked like they came from knives and not kicks, and in need of some bandaging, Damien grudgingly followed Eve back to her house, and met her father for the first time. When the two were introduced, Damien was taken aback as the man knelt down before him, his forehead firmly planted against the ground. After taking care of Damien’s wounds, and explaining what Eve had done, Altan Fahri offered to take Damien on as a disciple, noting his endurance and ability to stand up to the Ten'notsurugi without anything more than his instincts. Desiring to become strong, Damien immediately accepted, and thus became a regular visitor to the Fahri house, well on the outskirts of the city.

This lifestyle continued for the next 6 years, with Damien finally mellowing out and accepting his father’s death, as well as becoming more and more versed in the Ten'notsurugi. This easy lifestyle took a turn for the worst when Damien turned 17, and his mother collapsed due to exhaustion. While Damien had been pursuing what he had wanted, his mother had been sacrificing herself for her only son. As she laid there in the hospital bed, sleeping, Damien felt the full weight of his selfishness crash down upon him. Remembering a story his mother had once told him, Damien stole home, quickly finding pen and paper. He remembered his mother telling him about his grandparents, who Damien now turned to for help. What he could never have imagined, as a limousine arrived the week after bearing the elderly couple, was just how well-off they were. Coming from old money, his mother had run away from home and an arranged marriage to be with the man she loved. Now, petitioned by the future heir of their fortune, the De Rais’ swept down to take advantage of the situation, to make sure that their legacy was secure. Agreeing with the strict terms placed upon him by his grandparents in order to make life easy for his mother, Damien prepared himself to say goodbye to his life in Leadville, Colorado, finally bidding his master goodbye. The night before Damien left, Altan performed the ascension ritual, marking Damien as the next successor to the Ten'notsurugi style. Given the scrolls that carried the ougis of the style, Damien swore to uphold the honor of their ancient art, and that he would make his master proud. And so Damien left for sunny California, and his new life as a member of the upper crust.

Physical Characteristics

Height: 6’2” (Metric)
Weight: 220 Lb. (100 Kg)
Posture: Damien always carries himself with pride. His walk is best described as a saunter, or perhaps a lope: He takes his time getting to where he needs, but his movements seem so fluid as to almost be animalistic. A proud man, he can always be seen walking with his head held high and his shoulders thrown back, ready to face the world.
Build: Heavily muscular, due to years of living and training in incredibly high altitudes.
Skin: Fair, though there is a slight hint of a tan. Damien is by no means golden, as most of his life has been lived in the cold mountains, but he at least has some color to his rough skin.
Hair: Damien’s dirty blond hair has a tendency to spike straight from his head like blades of grass, a hairstyle that Damien has long ago given up trying to tame. Despite the fact that his hair looks like golden spears firing from his scalp, his hair is actually quite soft to the touch.
Widow's peak?: None
Ears: He has them. There is not much to say about his ears: They are proportional, and are just about the only part of his body that bears no scars.
Eyes: Damien’s light brown, almost tawny eyes are often alert, as if on the lookout for some kind of trouble. Despite this, they seem to gleam with the light of some joke or merriment.
Nose: Damien has a slightly angular nose, though there is a small, almost unnoticeable bump near the top of the bridge where he had broken his nose in his first fight and had it subsequently set.
Mouth: Damien has an average-sized mouth, with not very many interesting features here. However, in the bottom left corner, there is a faded white scar that stretches down his bottom lip.
Face shape: Oblong
Expressions: While Damien can be quite serious, more often than not a smile stretching from ear to ear will steal the spotlight on this giant’s face, his eyes sparkling with mirth. In a fight, though he is enjoying himself, he will often have a serious expression on his face, his entire being focused towards the goal of ending his opponent.
Describe their smile: Damien’s more common smile is formed with the right side pulled back farther than the left and a glint in his eyes, roguish in demeanor. This smile usually means Damien is planning something mischievous. His other smile, saved only for reuniting with a long lost friend, in the middle of a drawn out battle, or some other happy occasion, stretches from ear to ear and reveals rows of gleaming white teeth.
Hands: Each one of his rather large hands seem as if they could encase a man’s head with ease, and are covered with scars and calluses. His hands seem to almost project an air of absolute, domineering power, while simultaneously exuding an aura of gentleness and peacefulness.
Feet: Large feet to support such a large man, Damien’s feet are well-tanned and very roughly callused, as if he regularly walks without shoes.
Tattoos/Scars?: Damien’s body is crisscrossed with scars of all shapes and sizes. The most notable ones are the scar that splits his right eyebrow in half, diagonally cutting through the eyebrow, the scar tissue that has built up over his knuckles, and the crucifix-shaped scar which starts on his left hand and extends down about a quarter of the way down his forearm. Finally, Damien has a single tattoo on his right shoulder, one that marks him as the solitary successor of his martial art. It almost looks like a minimalist relief of a fly, the symbol originating with a single dot from which all other lines originate. Three lines extend upwards, one straight, two curving like bull horns, seeming to form a trident of sorts as the body for the fly. Finally, five lines extend downwards towards his arm, four curved, one straight. The outside four, two on each side of the middle straight line that serves as the proboscis of the fly, curve outwards, forming the limbs of the fly.
Glasses/Contacts? N/A
Left/Right handed? Left Handed.
Distinguishing features: The tattoo that marks him as the successor of his martial art, his size.
Who does he take after; mother or father?: Father
Style: While Damien does not often dress to impress, something about his bearing and the way he carries himself seems to be almost leonine in nature, demanding respect. While those who think themselves better than others may dismiss him to begin with, they will find it difficult to keep up with that particular attitude, due to Damien’s incredible charisma.
How does s/he dress or what do they typically wear?: Damien often dresses quite simply, usually wearing nothing more than his beloved, seemingly indestructible blue jeans, sneakers that have turned tan with age, and a simple, white muscle shirt or a darker colored t-shirt. Nothing fancy. Every once in a while, Damien might switch it up and wear black sweatpants, or brown combat boots, but that’s about it. But no matter where Damien goes, he will never be found without his beloved white zip up hoodie, the one that has tribal markings starting across the shoulder blades and fading as they travel down his arms. No matter how cold it gets outside, Damien will never zip this up, unless frostbite is his only other option.
Other outfits one might find in their wardrobe: With his newfound wealth, Damien has discovered that he actually has to dress up for events and the like, which means a 3 piece suit. Despite how well tailored the suit itself is, Damien always looks uncomfortable in it, and will always look for any chance to escape it.
Jewelry: N/A
Other accessories: Though he does not smoke, Damien always carries around a steel lighter that was his father’s. It bears the crest of his father’s firehouse station. Furthermore, he always carries his beloved black and green headphones around his neck. At any given time, occasionally even during a fight, these can be found blasting good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll.
Weapons: The only weapon Damien ever needed was his own body.
Health: Damien is a very healthy individual, his strong body fighting off most germs. However, once a year, around the same time each year, he will always be struck down by a nasty bug, and will be all but incapacitated by it. He always dreads flu season for this reason.
Hygiene: Damien’s master always had the motto that a clean body lead to a clean mind, and thus all but waterboarded Damien daily. This habit has carried into Damien’s daily life, leading to him bathing at least twice a day. He’s no clean freak, and is quite used to having blood running down his face and his limbs caked in mud, but he likes washing it off at the end of the day, and doesn’t much enjoy the idea of marinating in his own filth.
Physical Flaws: Nothing other than the scar tissue that crisscrosses most of his body.
Physical Qualities: N/A

Characteristics

Are they generally balanced or clumsy?: Balanced
Mannerisms/Poses/Movement: Damien always holds himself with pride, his head held high as he surveys any challenge placed before him. He also seems incredibly self-contained, as if he is assured of himself and his safety in any situation.
Describe their walk: His walk is best described as a saunter, or perhaps a lope: He takes his time getting to where he needs, but his movements seem so fluid as to almost be animalistic. A proud man, he can always be seen walking with his head held high and his shoulders thrown back, ready to face the world.
Habits/OCDs/Obsessions: When annoyed, Damien will often run his fingers through his hair before just grabbing hold of the hairs by the roots, as if he’s making sure he keeps a calm head. Whenever he’s bored, he can often be found just flicking open and closed the cap to his lighter, or occasionally playing with the flame.
Speech Patterns: Damien’s speech contains quite a bit of slang. He’ll often cut off the end of words, so instead of running, he would say runnin’, and dying becomes dyin’.
Unique phrases/words: “Well, screw me sideways, why don’t ya?” and, “Eh, I’ll survive.” Are his two most common sayings.
Do they curse, and if so, to what extent?: Damien curses quite readily, despite his family’s efforts to curb such vulgarities.
Write a piece of dialogue that this character might say: “Alright. So lemme get this straight. I ‘just’ gotta run down the side of the mountain, tryin’ not to trip and fall or get eaten by a mountain lion, go buy some inconsequential item from the friggin’ store ‘cause it’ll take an extra day to get here by rail, and sprint two miles back, straight up the side of a goddamn tall-ass mountain. That’s everything, right? I ain’t missing something, like ninjas are gonna try to jump out and murder my ass? No? Okay. And you think this is reasonable to ask. Just checkin.’ Glad we had this conversation.”
Voice:
Spoiler:

Describe their laugh: Often, Damien’s laugh starts out breathless, but finally seems to ‘catch’ in his voice, before turning into a deep laugh that seems to come from the very pits of his belly.
Describe their sleep patterns: Damien is quite a light sleeper, a by-product of his master regularly playing tricks on him throughout the night during his apprenticeship. However, despite this, Damien absolutely love sleeping, and will often take naps whenever possible. If this happens whenever Damien is needed, the best remedy is merely to kick him or throw water at him. He’ll wake up. He won’t be happy, but he’ll wake up.
Describe their dwelling/house: Damien now lives in a rather large house, almost bordering on mansion sized. More than once he has gotten lost inside the ornate house, just exploring all the old fashioned rooms that look as if the last owner was Jay Gatsby himself.
Describe their bedroom: Damien’s third floor bedroom is as ornate as the rest of his house. The large interior is dominated by the four poster bed that is rarely used, and the massive oak desk that is never used. A hidden door leads to a closet that is far too big for the few items of clothing Damien possesses, and another door leads to a private bathroom. The door that is by far used the most often, however, is the one that leads down a winding path to the exercise room.
Describe their daily rituals: Wake up, dress lightly (no shirt, no shoes), go for a short, 10 km jog, come back, weightlift, bathe, prepare for the start of the day.

Psychological/Personality Attributes and Attitudes

Intelligence Level: 112
Known Languages: English, Arabic
Character's long-term goals/desires in life: Hasn’t the foggiest clue. A nice goal would be finding out his damned goals. Perhaps master his martial art. He’s working on it.
Character's short-term goals/desires in life: Prove his master’s martial art is superior to all others.
Secret desires:  To fall in love and raise a family. Despite his looks, Damien is actually quite the romantic, due to his chivalrous upbringing.
How self-confident is the character?: Quite. No matter the situation, Damien is confident that he’ll always be able to come out on top. Even if he was swallowed by a whale, Damien would trust himself to come out the other end clean, covered in the gold from some old galleon.
How do they see him/herself?: While Damien sees himself as powerful, and knows that he is willing to go to any length to achieve his goals, he also knows that he always falls just short of where he wants to be, despite his own self-confidence.
How do they believe s/he is perceived by others?: Damien thinks that all anyone else sees is the confident, leonine man that is willing to go any distance to obtain his desires, as this is the persona that he regularly parades for the world to see.
What is the character most proud of?: The tattoo on his right shoulder, signifying that his beloved master thought him worthy of carrying on his techniques.
What does the character like least about themselves?: That in his eyes, he can never quite measure up to the man his father was, and the kind of man that he wants to become. While this may seem like a rather small thing, it tears him up internally that he always falls just short.
How do they express themselves?: While Damien cannot sing for his life, and has no musical talent whatsoever, he does have a way with words, and enjoys writing. Most of all though, he loves his martial art, and loves nothing more than simply working through forms and katas, perfecting his techniques.
Is this character generally dominant or submissive?: Dominant
Patience level: While Damien is a patient man, he still has his limits, and has no tolerance for negligence or laziness.
Does the character seem ruled by emotion or logic or some combination thereof?: Damien seems to be more so ruled by his emotions and instincts than his logic in almost every situation.
Most at ease when: When he’s fighting or just hanging around with his friends, someplace where he can just be himself.
Ill at ease when: In a suit or at any formal event where he has to put on a persona. This includes his own house.
Describe their sense of humor: Damien has always had a rather black sense of humor, always enjoying a bit of gallows humor or the like. He also likes situational humor and dry wit, as he believes those require actual intelligence to pull off, instead of just memorizing words for later use.
If granted one wish, what would it be?: Just to be able to talk to his father again, to hear him laugh.
Why?: Isn’t it obvious? If you lost one of your parents, wouldn’t you do anything to get them back?
Character/Personality/Mental/Social Strengths: Damien is incredibly charismatic, often bringing even those who are his staunchest opponents to his side. Furthermore, Damien is rather easygoing about almost everything, and thus is able to flow over most insults and deal with most problems. This attitude also allows him to keep a cool head in most situations.
Character/Personality/Mental/Social Flaws: Proud- will not let anything he holds dearly be insulted standing down. And when his pride is pricked, his wrath will not be sated until his victim has apologized or wishes he had.
If they could be described with one of the seven virtues, which would it be?: Diligence
If they could be described with one of the seven sins, which would it be?: Pride
Biggest Vulnerability: Someone telling him that he does not deserve to carry on his martial art.
Optimist or Pessimist: Optimist
Introvert or extrovert: Extrovert
Greatest Fear: Fire. Damien can deal with it when it is just a campfire or a lighter flame, but much bigger than that, or God forbid, he gets trapped in a burning building, and Damien is going to start freaking out.
Other Fears/Insecurities/Phobias:  Claustrophobia, just due to his size alone. He also dislikes spiders, though in that case, he will usually declare a full jihad to kill the spider, often going well into violent overkill.
Emotional/psychological/social peculiarities: Other than the above, Damien is quite well socially adjusted, and is able to easily make friends and new connections.
Biggest regret: Damien feels guilty that he doesn’t really want to do much with his life, despite the fact that he has so many resources at his disposal now. It makes him feel like he’s just another one of those rich ne’r-do-wells who do nothing but party all night and nurse hangovers all day.
Other regrets: Other than that big one, Damien is rather easygoing, and so tends to not have any regrets. Perhaps one would be how reckless he can be sometimes, especially when showing off.
Biggest accomplishment: Being named as the 34th successor to his martial art by his master.
Minor accomplishments: While Damien has won a few sports trophies and the like, he barely remembers any of them and doesn’t really care for such things.
Musical talents/instruments: While Damien loves music, especially rock and roll, he himself doesn’t have any musical talent.
Character's darkest/deepest secret: Damien suspects that he secretly loves going berserk and fighting like the god of war himself, and this terrifies and sickens him. And yet, he cannot resist the allure of war…
Minor Secrets: Damien is a wonderful cook.

  • Fighting
  • Rain

Dislikes:

  • Suits
  • Being angry
  • Fire

Favorite ---

  • Color: Purple
  • Clothing: His beloved white zip-up hoodie.
  • Place: There’s this river nested in the heart of the mountains, a little off the beaten path from Leadville, Colorado. It leads all the way down to the base of the mountain, and every square inch of it is teeming with fish. As a child, Damien loved nothing more than just taking his fishing rod, sitting down, and just listening to the brook babble as the day passed.
  • Room in the house and why: Damien loves the topmost balcony, as no one ever goes up there, so it’s nice and quiet for when he just wants to escape, and it is just beneath the stars, high enough that it seems that you could almost grab one.
  • Food/drinks: Damien’s favorite food is a well cooked, juicy slice of beef brisket, the kind you can’t even pick up with a fork without shredding since it’s so well done. His mouth salivates just at the thought of such a meal. His favorite drink would have to be Dr. Pepper. He knows that as a martial artist that he should eschew soft drinks like that, but it’s just so delicious.
  • Music genre: Rock ‘n’ Roll
  • Songs and Singers/Bands: Aranda, Shaman’s Harvest, Escape the Fate, AC/DC, Halestorm.
  • Movies/TV Shows/Performances: Pirates of the Caribbean, Iron Man.
  • Actors/Performers: Robert Downey Jr., Johnny Depp, Jennifer Lawrence
  • Books: The Last Crusade, anything by Jim Butcher.
  • Historical figure: Alexander the Great
  • Subject in school: Physics
  • Animal: Lion

Least Favorite ---

  • Clothing: Suits. Ugh. They are horrible and restrictive. It’s almost like you’re not expected to even breathe in them. Maybe that’s how wearers got the name ‘stiffs.’
  • Place: Parlor Room. Literally the most stuffy room ever. It’s amazing that people can actually breathe in that thing.
  • Food: Broccoli. Is it healthy for you? Yes. Will Damien go to hell and back just to not eat it? Also yes.
  • Music genre: Pop. Gah. Pop. Where the men never seem to hit puberty and the women never sing more than 5 unique lines.
  • Subject in school: Math. Shut up, he knows it’s close to Physics. He doesn’t get it either.

Simple Pleasures: The smell of the earth after a light rain, a delicious meal after he’s famished, lying down in a sunny field and just doing nothing.
Greater Pleasures: Victory, whether in a fight or just winning at life in general. Despite his regrets about how reckless he can be, Damien loves little more than pulling off a trick or showing off in front of his friends, or God save him, a pretty girl.
Where does this character like to hang out?: Usually in the forest, or anywhere his friends are. He’s no hippie, he just doesn’t really like crowded or stuffy seeming places.
Where is this character's dream place to live?: Probably back in Leadville, near his beloved river.
Motto/Personal quote: “Eh, I’ll survive.”
Mode of transportation: He’s got two legs, doesn’t he? Worst comes to worst, he has a driver’s license. And apparently, a car.
Most prized possession: His father’s lighter
Why?: He feels as if it connects him to the memory of his father. It never fails to calm him down.

Emotional Characteristics

Describe character's sense of morals: Damien has a rather rigid and old fashioned sense of morals. He was raised to always be chivalrous, helping out a woman in need, putting the desires of others before himself, and above all else, making sure that he left a place or a person in better condition than when he arrived.
What do they consider taboo: While Damien is not above killing in self-defense, he will do everything in his power to keep his opponent alive, and will physically feel ill if he is forced to kill. He also subconsciously holds back when fighting a woman, and has to force himself to make a strike hit. Finally, Damien becomes physically ill even at the thought of breaking his word, and will do anything to avoid it.
Describe character's etiquette: Damien is chivalrous to a fault, helping out all those in need, and always saying please and thank you. Though he may seem a rough sort of fellow, Damien truly does care about nearly everyone, and tries to help out wherever he can. He might not be right all the time, but he will never stop trying.
Describe character's sense of self-control: Damien is rather controlled in almost all circumstances, realizing his ability to harm others if he isn’t careful. However, when his pride is pricked in just the right way, or he’s thinking about messing around or showing off, all his self-control just flies out the window and he just does whatever feels right.
Spontaneous or structured?: Spontaneous
Instinctual or logical?: Instinctual
How does this character act in public?: It depends on the public. Among 90% of the population, Damien is carefree, happy-go-lucky, and chivalrous as they come. This is his true persona, the person he really is. With his family however, and all the upper crust that comes with those connections, Damien is reserved, trying to please his family, yet internally hating every minute of it.
How does this character act in privacy?: Damien truly is the carefree person that he claims to be, but when alone he’s a bit quieter, instead focused on improving himself as opposed to others.
How does this character act around strangers vs. how they act around friends?: Damien would treat them both the same, with a wide smile and open arms. As happy-go-lucky as he is, Damien is more likely than not to be kind to any stranger he meets, unless given a reason not to be.
How does this character act around family?: Around his family, Damien is usually reserved and meek, accepting their wishes in order to make them proud.
How has this character most changed from youth?: Damien has become a bit more realistic, with the death of his father. This however, has also given him an incredible strength of will, one that allows him to push on when others would have quit long ago. He knows that there are some things that cannot be changed, but he still is willing to try all the same.
How have they remained the same?: He’s still the same reckless idiot from years ago who would jump off a building just to impress a girl.
Has this character dealt with the loss of someone they knew?: Yes
If so, who?: Father
How has it affected them?: It’s made him a bit more accepting of things he can’t control, but it has also taught him to value everything and to never take anything for granted.
How does this character deal with or react to --

  • Conflict/Danger: Damien is remarkably calm in danger, relying on his skills and ability to get him out of trouble.
  • Rejection: Damien’s happy-go-lucky attitude is rather useful here, as it allows him to overcome rejection rather quickly. The nice part is that Damien usually still has adrenaline flowing due to the courage to ask a girl out at rejection time, so that helps dull the blow a bit.
  • Fear: If it’s a minor fear, like spiders or snakes, Damien will declare a full jihad on that fear, and will not stop until he has wiped it from the face of the earth. However, if he is facing an inferno, Damien will freeze up, becoming completely useless, before trying everything in his power to flee. In this second case, Damien cannot differentiate between friend and foe, and will attack anyone and anything that gets in his way.
  • Change: Damien is remarkably adaptable to change, though like with all people, it depends on what has changed and to what extent. For trivial changes, Damien will usually just flow right over it as if things had always been that way, but should it be something major, Damien will become somewhat reticent as he figures out some way to adapt to his new way of life.
  • Loss: Loss hits Damien harder than most, as he knows the pain from losing something close to you, and deeply emphasizes with that pain. However, if he himself has suffered the loss, he will probably shunt it to the back of his mind until he is alone, when he can properly grieve.
  • Sex/Flirting: Damien is remarkably good at flirting, so long as he does not have a personal stake in the matter. If he’s just playing around, he’ll be uncommonly good at it, but if he actually likes the target of his sweet nothings, his wit will dull and he will become remarkably more reserved than previously.
  • Pain: Damien excels at blocking out pain, often not feeling the pain from injuries- nor even knowing he was injured- until the next day, when he tries to move.
  • Stress: In order not to burden others with his troubles, Damien will often keep his hidden stresses to himself, slowly working through them alone so as to not bother his friends.
  • Peer pressure: While Damien is remarkably good at ignoring stupid things mentioned by his enemies, he is uncommonly poor at ignoring stupid things said by his friends. More than one injury has come from the phrase, “Hey Damien, I bet you can’t…”
  • Guilt: Guilt eats at Damien like sharks smelling blood in the water. If he feels the slightest twinge of guilt at a wrong committed, he will not stop until his sense of honor has been sated and he has done right by the wronged party.
  • Being wrong: Damien is quite used to being wrong, so he really has no problems with it. He’ll apologize and try to learn from there on.
  • Being criticized: Like stated previously, Damien would far prefer to learn than to stick his head under a rock. Even if the criticizer is being spiteful, Damien will try to see the truth behind their statements and improve himself from them. This isn’t to say he isn’t human- it will take a moment for him to swallow his pride, like anyone else would.
  • Being insulted: Superficial insults such as name calling and the like will roll over Damien like oil over water. However, a direct insult to his master or his martial art will stir Damien into a frenzy, and he will not stop until he has proved the offender deadly wrong.
  • Offending others: Damien would never intentionally try to offend another being, and would begin to feel guilty at doing so- unless he’s in a fight. Then it’s just a tactic to enrage his opponent.
  • Praise: Like most people, Damien always enjoys praise, though he tries to deny it. Unless the praise is from his master or a close friend, however, he most likely won’t let it go to his head.
  • Being loved: Damien’s reaction to being loved is a kind of exultant fear. He is overjoyed that there are such people that care so deeply for him, but at the same time he is terrified at the debt that means he owes them and how much they mean to him, and would be devastated if he should lose them.
  • Being hated: Damien would feel mostly sorrow at this, that there is someone who hates what he is, but this event would probably affect him least of all among the list. Someone hated is just someone to fight.
  • Humiliation: If it’s a small humiliation, like a personal screwup or a public rejection, Damien will probably laugh it off, thinking about how ridiculous he had been to get in that situation. Should he be humiliated in a fight however, he will quickly become desperate, looking for any chance to turn the tables or somehow get the upper hand.

How does this character express ---

  • Anger: Damien’s anger is immediate and physical. If he is truly angry at someone- no mean feat achieving this- he will immediately attack, aiming to take out his opponent.
  • Sadness: Damien will usually wait until he is alone to express sadness, so he can properly grieve. Until then, he will shunt it to the side in order to complete his current task.
  • Happiness/Excitement: When Damien is excited, you will know. He will not stop to get what he wants.
  • Love: Damien is a very physical person, and thus will often like to kiss or hold hands with the one he loves.
  • Lust: See above. The man just cannot keep his hands to himself.
  • Stress/anxiety: Like all his more negative emotions, Damien will usually keep to himself about this and put it to the side until he has the ability to deal with it. If too much is allowed to build up, however, he will lash out.
  • Dislike: If the person is necessary towards a goal, or liked by his friends, Damien will usually keep his dislike to himself. However, if these conditions are not met, Damien will make his disapproval known.
  • Approval: Damien is not afraid to say if he loves an idea, and if he approves something, he will express so quite loudly.

How does this character generally express themselves?: Damien is just a generally happy-go-lucky person with his heart on his sleeve. He will usually let those around him know exactly what he’s feeling should they ask, but he would prefer to keep his burdens to himself as well as take on those of his friends, as he knows that his broad shoulders can withstand the weight.
What does this character think/feel about ---

  • Marriage: Despite his love of fighting and freedom, Damien is actually somewhat of a romantic. One of his (admittedly few) goals in life is to find a pretty girl, settle down, and raise a family.
  • Children: Damien loves children, and is incredibly protective of them. However, when he is surrounded by children, he will usually freeze up, and become very careful in his every move so as to not injure any of them.
  • Family/Family Values: Well, Damien does desire a family eventually, so these are probably pretty high on his list. Just a guess, though.
  • Old age: Frankly, Damien is somewhat scared of getting old. He’s worried about one day getting out of bed, and not being able to do the things he loves doing anymore.
  • Sex: What isn’t there to love about it? It’s fun as hell and you grow closer with your partner- even if it’s only for the night.
  • Love: A subject rather close to Damien’s heart, he would love to have someone to love, but at the same time, would be petrified of what might happen to them. Damien is a worrisome man.
  • Friendship/Other relationships:
  • Homosexuality: Damien does not give a damn. What others do behind closed doors is none of his damned business.
  • The opposite sex: Sometimes they create headaches, cause him to do stupid things for no reason, and are sometimes more trouble than they’re worth, but damned if Damien would ever give them up. They’re just too much fun to be with.
  • The same sex: Sometimes the things his friends ask him to do are even stupider than the things he does on his own, but sometimes there is nothing Damien likes more than just hanging out at the arcade or at the park with his bros.
  • Money/Material things: Damien doesn’t particularly care for money much. He’s gotten by with just enough, and he’s had more than he could think to spend, and he still thinks there are fewer headaches and more pleasures with the first one.
  • Politics: Damien really doesn’t have a political opinion whatsoever. He knows he probably should, but he just cannot make the time for it.
  • Religion: Damien is rather religious, having been born Catholic and preferring to keep his religion as such. However, he is not the preachy, bible-thumping sort, and thus will keep this part of him to himself unless specifically asked.
  • Destiny/Duty: Damien doesn’t believe there is anything such as destiny, and instead chooses to think that all of us have a choice and the ability to shape our own fate.
  • Magic/Myth: It would be cool if magic and stuff was real, but it isn’t, so we’ll just have to carry on in our daily lives like normal.
  • Racism/Races in general: His beloved master was Turkish. Really, Damien can’t even understand why racism would exist at all. People are people and are wonderful because of that, not because their skin is slightly lighter than another’s.
  • Science/Technology: Damien likes seeing just how much mankind has advanced, and thus loves science, but unless it has something to do with physics or music, he will not show as much of an interest.
  • Nature/Animals: Damien loves nature, and likes nothing more than to just grab a fishing pole and head down to a creek to do nothing all day long.
  • Modernity: While Damien enjoys all the conveniences of the modern day, he can’t help but feel that people seem a little…lifeless, nowadays, just heading from home to work in a plain steel building, to just head home again and repeat the process over again.
  • Antiquity: Damien likes the carefree life people had a few years ago, but at the same time he realizes that leisure is a modern invention and that were he born way back when, he would probably be breaking his back on the farm.
  • Their past: Damien regrets some of the events in his past, but looks upon most of it with fondness and is glad that his life turned out the way it had.
  • Their future: Damien looks forward to what the future might bring for him, especially with what Project GOH promises him.
  • Project GOH: He can’t wait. A tournament to discover the strongest is literally what he’s desired for all his life.
  • Drugs and alcohol: Damien’s fine with drinking- not like there’s much else to do in such a small town as Leadville- but he heartily dislikes drugs, and will not associate with anyone who kills brain cells using hard drugs and the like.
  • Killing/Murder: Damien is fine with murder in self-defense, but there is little that will rile him up quicker than the needless waste of life.
  • Education: It’s useful. There’s a reason it’s required across most of the world.
  • The foreign/unknown: Let’s go check it out!

How does the character view life?: Something to be enjoyed to the fullest while we have it. Otherwise, we’re not living- we’re just surviving.
How does the character view death?: It’s inevitable. The only thing we can do about it is meet it on our terms.
How does the character view society?: It’s incredibly useful, and there’s little more satisfying than just hanging out with your friends.
How does the character imagine his/her own death?: Damien has two visions of his death. Version one has him dying in a bed, surrounded by all those he had loved in life. Version two is him dying on a battlefield, his enemies in tatters before him, he himself only dying because of the myriad wounds inflicted upon him, and even then, he dies on his feet. Damien is still unsure which future he desires more.
What does the character want out of life? A wife, kids, friends, a good fight every now and then. Not much.
What does this character consider "success" to be?: Happiness.
What would the character like to change in his/her life?: He’s not sure if he likes the incredibly bloodthirsty part of himself.
What motivates this character?: Victory, the promise of a good fight or a good laugh after a troubling time.
Why?: Nothing motivates Damien more than hope, that little light at the end of the tunnel. As long as there’s a chance, Damien will fight with every last fiber of his being.
What discourages this character?: Losing, Betrayal
Why?: Losing feels like he’s let down his master, the man he respects most in this world, and Damien trusts his friends with his life. If one of them were to betray him, Damien doesn’t know how he’d react.
What makes this character happy?: Fighting, his friends, relaxing, sleeping.
Why?: It’s the small pleasures in life. There’s little more fun than just hanging out with friends, and Damien loves his martial art. And the days that Damien can afford to do nothing are few and far between indeed.
What makes this character sad?: having to stay awake, making someone angry at him.
Why?: Damien loves his sleep, and being taken away from it will make him rather irritated. More importantly, though, Damien tries to be kind to everyone, and having someone return that kindness with hatred- or even worse, losing his temper and causing a friend to snap at him- will depress him.
What makes this character angry?: Being humiliated, someone looking down on his master. God forbid you dare to harm one of his friends.
Why?: Both of them deeply attack his sense of pride, and wound him in a way a spear never could. And if you harm someone he likes, may all of heaven have mercy on you, for he will not.
What humiliates this character?: Being toyed with, someone deeply wounding his pride. Otherwise, someone harming a friend he has sworn to protect. Anything that forces him to break his word.
What most describes this character's personality?: The best word to describe his personality would be happy-go-lucky.
Psychoanalysis: Damien most likely acts how he acts because he has realized that life is short, and that for all we do to fight it, we are all going to disappear from this world eventually. Therefore, he reasons, we should take our time and enjoy it while we have it. Why be angry? It’s like punishing yourself for another’s stupidity. However, Damien is still mortal, and suffers from all that mortality entails. He still gets angry, and often has to beat down his bloodthirsty urges. These seem to be hereditary, as he is directly related to the infamous Gilles de Rais. While this part of him loves going wild and destroying all that challenges him, Damien dislikes it and often tries to challenge it himself, with all his might.
Does it stem from childhood or an event, or chemical?: Most likely this all stems from his father’s early death, while the rage he constantly fights seems to come from within.

Relationships with Others (Non-Married)

Relationship Skills: Damien’s carefree nature, while occasionally irritating, is usually rather useful in mitigating any situation, and thus is helpful in maintaining a healthy relationship.
Loves: None at the moment.
Lusts: None at the moment
Crushes: Other than the casual crushes every man gets seeing a pretty girl in the street, or perhaps a celeb crush, none.
Girlfriend/Boyfriend(s): None currently
Other lover(s): None. What do you take him for, some kind of cheater?
Marital status: Bachelor
First crush: a girl around his age (14), named Amelia. She was the one that Damien was stupid enough to jump off the top of a roof for.
Did it last?: no.
Why or why not?: He had to move to his grandparent’s house, leaving Amelia far behind.
Best Friends: Eve Fahri, the little girl his father died protecting all those years ago. She was always the one that Damien thought he could tell anything to, no matter what happened. They always had each other’s backs throughout the years.
Friends: David Hull. The two got in a fistfight for their first meeting, and both had given up at the same time, lying on their backs, exhausted. They had been friends from that moment onward.
Confident/Mentor: His master, Altan. Damien would trust the man with his life.
Hates: He has yet to find someone to fit into this category.
Dislikes: People who are generally mean just for meanness’ sake.
Rivals: David Hull probably fits into this category as well.
Pets: None.
What kind of person would s/he consider to be the perfect partner?: Someone he could trust to have his back no matter the circumstances, someone he could tell anything to without fear of judgment or reprisal. Someone he knows will always be there. A strong fighter and a clever wit would be nice attributes as well.
Is the character judgmental of others and how so?: Not really. If a man proves himself to be rotten, then Damien will judge him as such. If a man proves himself as good, that’s how Damien will treat him. He bases his decisions far more on actions than words.

How is s/he perceived by ---

  • Strangers: He’s just a naïve fool. Sure, he’s big, but he doesn’t look like he could harm a fly, much less hold himself in a fight.
  • Friends: Dependable to a fault, his friends know that Damien will support them or die trying.
  • Colleagues: If you need a job done, Damien will do it. Anything he promises might as well be a done deal, since he’ll never break his word.
  • Lovers: A very physical man, caring to a fault and understanding.

Describe their sense of trust: Damien is incredibly trusting, often opening up to complete and total strangers. May God help you if you betray him, as you’ll need all the help you can get.
What type of individuals does s/he like or associate with?: Damien really doesn’t mind who he associates with- as long as they’re decent people, they’ll get along just fine.
What type of individuals doesn't s/he like or associate with?:Bullies, those who attack others for no good reason.
How do they treat members of the opposite sex?: As human beings, of course. Sure, Damien is probably slightly more courteous with a woman than a man due to his chivalrous upbringing, and sure, that might technically be sexism, but that’s just the way he is.
How do they treat members of the same sex?: Men are expected to hold at least similar values to his, to be courteous and kind to all those they meet. Just about everyone he meets quickly becomes a friend, though.
What do family/friends like most about character?: His sheer dependability. Call him predictable, but it’s usually easy to know how Damien will react in a certain situation, as well as his constant willingness to help out a friend in need.
What do family/friends like least about character?: His unwillingness to change who he is. Yes, he’s willing to adapt to just about any circumstances, but he will not give up his core being, who he believes himself to be.

Romantic Life

What do they consider to be a romantic setting/activity/date?: A picnic somewhere nice and secluded.
What did they do on their first date?: Took the girl in question swimming in the river.
How does a normal date go for this character?: Damien would most likely take the girl out to dinner, or to a picnic in some rarely visited meadow, where they can just be alone and as silly as they want to. This varies on the girl’s interests, though.
How would they like to propose or be proposed to?: Damien would probably like to surprise his future wife. The only time he would want to be wearing a suit, he would like to be dancing at a party or someplace formal, take her to the balcony or somewhere secluded, and drop to one knee.
Does this character have self-control around individuals of their romantic interest? Describe: Yes. Actually, unless he’s being uncontrollably silly, Damien is far more likely to be reserved around his romantic interest than his normal demeanor. For all his courage, Damien is afraid that he’ll say the wrong word, do the wrong thing, and mess it all up.
Turn-ons: A sincere laugh, a girl just being herself and open, strong-willed, open-minded.
Turn-offs: Too compliant, a girl stuck in her ways, dishonesty
Dominant or Submissive?: Dominant

What does each parent think of the character?: While his mother thinks he’s a bit odd, she loves him all the same.
How did the character treat each of their parents growing up?:Both were treated with the ultimate respect and devotion, especially his father. Damien saw the man as blameless and faultless, and trusted him with that simple-minded devotion only children seem able to show.
How does the character treat each of their parents now? Damien still loves his mother unconditionally, but feels the strain placed on the relationship by moving. While he doesn’t blame her for how events turned out, he can’t help but feel bitter about how he is expected to act from now on.

Describe their family life/dynamic now: Now the family dynamic is slightly strained, as Damien and his mother were forced to move back in with her old money, ‘East Egg’ parents, his grandparents. Though they see him as the heir apparent, they also see him as errant at best, and a failure at worst, and often push him to be molded in the image they best see fit.

Why?: Well, she’s really the only one that’s around now, isn’t she?

Chinese Zodiac: Tiger

Why?: Incredibly playful, predatorily graceful, and slow to anger, yet should you rouse his wrath, there will be no escape.
If this character were the opposite sex what would they ---

  • Do?: Damien would probably enjoy flirting mindlessly with other girls, and seeing all the perks his new body could gain him. Free dinner!
  • Say?: Damien would probably still be the same badmouthed, cheery sort that he is as a man. Still, whatever he would say, it would be certain that others would listen.
  • Feel?: He would feel slightly vulnerable, no longer possessing the sheer power he enjoyed as a man, and yet he would find it fun for quite a while, just seeing how the other side lives.

If this character were to be characterized by an object, what would it be?: A sheathed sword.
Why?: Though it seems harmless, and has the power to protect, a single errant action can turn it into a tool of pure destruction.
What would this character do if confronted with someone identical in personality?: They would probably end up being best friends or rivals, depending on the mood either one of them was in when they first met.. Either way, there would be a whole lot of fighting and laughing afterwards.
What would happen if this character became physically handicapped, and how would that change them?: Damien would probably become quite a bitter person, as he loves his physicality and his martial arts, and a handicap such as paralysis would effectively end both of those.
What would/does this character do if spontaneously placed in a whole new and unfamiliar environment/country/planet/etc? Other than wonder what the hell he had been drinking? Probably try to find out if the natives are friendly, figure out how to survive.

Vital Statistics

Name: Damien Lier
Physical Level: 6
H.P: 671
G.P: 28
Fighting Style: Ten'notsurugi (Sword of Heaven)

Skills:
Charisma/Leadership: A normal person is a follower, someone who doesn't take charge in the situation as well as a Leader could. Someone who is proficient at Charisma/Leadership, has this air of capability about them, this confidence in their speaking, something just makes normal people want to follow their orders. These people can inspire courage, promote trust, and attain support for their actions, even from the skeptical followers.

Damage Recovery: A normal person may take a while to recover from injuries, only being assisted by nanobots when their match is over. However a person who is proficient at Damage Recovery will have an enhanced healing speed, can recover from blows and retaliate faster, and are more resilient to damage in general. Even without nanobots this person could recover from a sword wound without scarring in 2 weeks, and broken bones would mend correctly almost every time.

Lack of Fear: A person who doesn't have this is afraid of things people normally would be. Death, spiders, murderous clowns, people can be afraid of a lot of things. However, a person who has Lack of Fear is not afraid of those menial things. They may fear something more worthy of fear, but these people will respond to fear tactics with a grin and could butt heads with a demon without so much as an unwilling blink of discomfort.

Pain Tolerance: A person without this is susceptible to things that focus on causing them pain. Torture, submission holds, that kind of thing. A person with pain tolerance as a skill are able to ignore this kind of pain. That doesn't mean they don't feel pain, it means that they can ignore it.

Imitation: A person without this skill can mimic things like a normal person could. However, a person who is proficient at Imitation can pick apart moves after seeing them once or twice and use the moves they see against the original user though they forget some stuff. A person who is a master of Analysis could reverse engineer a move they are faced with and use its foundation for later moves of their own and possibly even develop it then and there. A very useful pair of skills to have.

Analysis*: The skill of looking at the details, and deducing information. A person without this skill, is about average in the ways of looking at things and making assumptions. They look at it and get the standard info one could see from it. A character who takes this skill can look at more of the info provided faster, allowing them to put together puzzle rather quickly, learn about people by examining their outfit more closely, tell from the voice whether or not someone smokes, slightly impressive things like that. In a combat situation, a person proficient at Analysis can catch on to attack patterns quickly and respond appropriately. A person who takes Mastery in Analysis, is a lot like Sherlock Holmes in their analysis skills, capable of determining a life story from appearance, posture, mannerisms, voice, and can recognize a fighting style they've seen before down to the particular generation of use. Through one combat session, they can analyze all the weaknesses of a fighting style to determine how to win if they can. They are also able to determine HP by observing their opponent (doesn't need the watch for that).
