First Memory: His old dog, Hercules, staring at Damien for a while before licking his face and protectively curling around his new master.
Most important childhood event that still affects him: His father, a firefighter, died saving a young girl in a freak firestorm inside the Delaware Hotel. The fire had started from a lazy chef who had neglected his cooking.
Why/How?: Damien grew up wanting to protect all those that surround him, regardless of whether he knows them or not. However, he absolutely despises laziness or negligence to details, and will often berate himself or others should he see someone falling into such actions.
Past failures he would be embarrassed to have people know about and why: When he was 10, while trying to show off how brave he was to a girl, Damien jumped off the roof of a house and subsequently broke his left leg. While the break healed cleanly, at the time the bone had cut through the skin. Now, whenever anyone asks about the scar, Damien gets flustered, as he is embarrassed that he was (and probably still is) stupid enough to risk life and limb just to look good in front of a girl.
Biggest role model: His father.
Why?: Though the man died early in Damien’s life, he always looked up to his father as a model for morals, as well as what kind of man he wanted to grow up to become.
Biggest disillusions from childhood: No man is invincible- not even the ones we love.
History: Damien was born to a rather middle class family just living it out in Leadville, Colorado. They didn’t have much money to go around, but unlike many families, they cared for one another, and what they had was enough for them. It also helped that Damien’s father was a firefighter, which meant that whenever Parent’s Day rolled around, Damien always won the ‘coolest father’ title from his friends. Things went on pretty normally until age 10, when a negligent cook forgot to check his pot, and ended up creating a grease fire that consumed the famous Delaware Hotel. After everyone had been evacuated, a whimpering cry was heard from the third floor, originating from a little girl who must have been overlooked during the original sweep. Without thinking, Edward Lier plunged back into the inferno, looking for the source of the sound. Endless minutes passed, Damien staring in shock, no one able to remove him from the scene. Finally, a man wreathed in smoke and fire, his coat bulging, stepped out from the inferno. Damien cried out in joy, seeing his father alive. Taking a few tottering steps, Edward Lier approached the ambulance, unzipping his coat, revealing a tiny Arabic girl, no more than 9 or 10. However, the strange part of all this was that she was wearing a smog mask. Looking up to his father in horror, Damien saw that he had given the little girl access to his oxygen tank, forcing himself to breathe in the smoke instead. After handing over the girl to the paramedics, Edward Lier collapsed.

Having rushed the pair to the hospital, Damien and his mother waited though the night, hoping that somehow their beloved father and husband would pull through. The news came with a forlorn doctor and a sad shake of the head: Edward Lier had finally succumbed to smoke inhalation. Damien became withdrawn as a child from that point onwards, especially detesting Eve, the little girl his father saved, whom he blamed for his father’s death. Despite being brought up knowing better, Damien eventually came to blows with the little girl, and subsequently had his ass handed to him. Wondering just how he had been shut down by a girl half his size and weight, who somehow managed to inflict wounds that looked like they came from knives and not kicks, and in need of some bandaging, Damien grudgingly followed Eve back to her house, and met her father for the first time. When the two were introduced, Damien was taken aback as the man knelt down before him, his forehead firmly planted against the ground. After taking care of Damien’s wounds, and explaining what Eve had done, Altan Fahri offered to take Damien on as a disciple, noting his endurance and ability to stand up to the Ten'notsurugi without anything more than his instincts. Desiring to become strong, Damien immediately accepted, and thus became a regular visitor to the Fahri house, well on the outskirts of the city.

This lifestyle continued for the next 6 years, with Damien finally mellowing out and accepting his father’s death, as well as becoming more and more versed in the Ten'notsurugi. This easy lifestyle took a turn for the worst when Damien turned 17, and his mother collapsed due to exhaustion. While Damien had been pursuing what he had wanted, his mother had been sacrificing herself for her only son. As she laid there in the hospital bed, sleeping, Damien felt the full weight of his selfishness crash down upon him. Remembering a story his mother had once told him, Damien stole home, quickly finding pen and paper. He remembered his mother telling him about his grandparents, who Damien now turned to for help. What he could never have imagined, as a limousine arrived the week after bearing the elderly couple, was just how well-off they were. Coming from old money, his mother had run away from home and an arranged marriage to be with the man she loved. Now, petitioned by the future heir of their fortune, the De Rais’ swept down to take advantage of the situation, to make sure that their legacy was secure. Agreeing with the strict terms placed upon him by his grandparents in order to make life easy for his mother, Damien prepared himself to say goodbye to his life in Leadville, Colorado, finally bidding his master goodbye. The night before Damien left, Altan performed the ascension ritual, marking Damien as the next successor to the Ten'notsurugi style. Given the scrolls that carried the ougis of the style, Damien swore to uphold the honor of their ancient art, and that he would make his master proud. And so Damien left for sunny California, and his new life as a member of the upper crust.

His walk is best described as a saunter, or perhaps a lope: He takes his time getting to where he needs, but his movements seem so fluid as to almost be animalistic. Skin: Fair, though there is a slight hint of a tan. Damien is by no means golden, as most of his life has been lived in the cold mountains, but he at least has some color to his rough skin.
Hair: Damien’s dirty blond hair has a tendency to spike straight from his head like blades of grass, a hairstyle that Damien has long ago given up trying to tame. Despite the fact that his hair looks like golden spears firing from his scalp, his hair is actually quite soft to the touch.

Ears: He has them. There is not much to say about his ears: They are proportional, and are just about the only part of his body that bears no scars.
Eyes: Damien’s light brown, almost tawny eyes are often alert, as if on the lookout for some kind of trouble. Despite this, they seem to gleam with the light of some joke or merriment.
Nose: Damien has a slightly angular nose, though there is a small, almost unnoticeable bump near the top of the bridge where he had broken his nose in his first fight and had it subsequently set.
Mouth: Damien has an average-sized mouth, with not very many interesting features here. However, in the bottom left corner, there is a faded white scar that stretches down his bottom lip.

Expressions: While Damien can be quite serious, more often than not a smile stretching from ear to ear will steal the spotlight on this giant’s face, his eyes sparkling with mirth. In a fight, though he is enjoying himself, he will often have a serious expression on his face, his entire being focused towards the goal of ending his opponent.
Describe their smile: Damien’s more common smile is formed with the right side pulled back farther than the left and a glint in his eyes, roguish in demeanor. This smile usually means Damien is planning something mischievous. His other smile, saved only for reuniting with a long lost friend, in the middle of a drawn out battle, or some other happy occasion, stretches from ear to ear and reveals rows of gleaming white teeth.
Hands: Each one of his rather large hands seem as if they could encase a man’s head with ease, and are covered with scars and calluses. His hands seem to almost project an air of absolute, domineering power, while simultaneously exuding an aura of gentleness and peacefulness.
Feet: Large feet to support such a large man, Damien’s feet are well-tanned and very roughly callused, as if he regularly walks without shoes.
Tattoos/Scars?: Damien’s body is crisscrossed with scars of all shapes and sizes. The most notable ones are the scar that splits his right eyebrow in half, diagonally cutting through the eyebrow, the scar tissue that has built up over his knuckles, and the crucifix-shaped scar which starts on his left hand and extends down about a quarter of the way down his forearm. Finally, Damien has a single tattoo on his right shoulder, one that marks him as the solitary successor of his martial art. It almost looks like a minimalist relief of a fly, the symbol originating with a single dot from which all other lines originate. Three lines extend upwards, one straight, two curving like bull horns, seeming to form a trident of sorts as the body for the fly. Finally, five lines extend downwards towards his arm, four curved, one straight. The outside four, two on each side of the middle straight line that serves as the proboscis of the fly, curve outwards, forming the limbs of the fly.

Style: While Damien does not often dress to impress, something about his bearing and the way he carries himself seems to be almost leonine in nature, demanding respect. While those who think themselves better than others may dismiss him to begin with, they will find it difficult to keep up with that particular attitude, due to Damien’s incredible charisma.
How does s/he dress or what do they typically wear?: Damien often dresses quite simply, usually wearing nothing more than his beloved, seemingly indestructible blue jeans, sneakers that have turned tan with age, and a simple, white muscle shirt or a darker colored t-shirt. Nothing fancy. Every once in a while, Damien might switch it up and wear black sweatpants, or brown combat boots, but that’s about it. But no matter where Damien goes, he will never be found without his beloved white zip up hoodie, the one that has tribal markings starting across the shoulder blades and fading as they travel down his arms. No matter how cold it gets outside, Damien will never zip this up, unless frostbite is his only other option.
Other outfits one might find in their wardrobe: With his newfound wealth, Damien has discovered that he actually has to dress up for events and the like, which means a 3 piece suit. Despite how well tailored the suit itself is, Damien always looks uncomfortable in it, and will always look for any chance to escape it.

Other accessories: Though he does not smoke, Damien always carries around a steel lighter that was his father’s. It bears the crest of his father’s firehouse station. Furthermore, he always carries his beloved black and green headphones around his neck. At any given time, occasionally even during a fight, these can be found blasting good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll.
Weapons: The only weapon Damien ever needed was his own body.
Health: Damien is a very healthy individual, his strong body fighting off most germs. However, once a year, around the same time each year, he will always be struck down by a nasty bug, and will be all but incapacitated by it. He always dreads flu season for this reason.
Hygiene: Damien’s master always had the motto that a clean body lead to a clean mind, and thus all but waterboarded Damien daily. This habit has carried into Damien’s daily life, leading to him bathing at least twice a day. He’s no clean freak, and is quite used to having blood running down his face and his limbs caked in mud, but he likes washing it off at the end of the day, and doesn’t much enjoy the idea of marinating in his own filth.

Whenever he’s bored, he can often be found just flicking open and closed the cap to his lighter, or occasionally playing with the flame.
Speech Patterns: Damien’s speech contains quite a bit of slang. He’ll often cut off the end of words, so instead of running, he would say runnin’, and dying becomes dyin’.

Describe their laugh: Often, Damien’s laugh starts out breathless, but finally seems to ‘catch’ in his voice, before turning into a deep laugh that seems to come from the very pits of his belly.
Describe their sleep patterns: Damien is quite a light sleeper, a by-product of his master regularly playing tricks on him throughout the night during his apprenticeship. However, despite this, Damien absolutely love sleeping, and will often take naps whenever possible. If this happens whenever Damien is needed, the best remedy is merely to kick him or throw water at him. He’ll wake up. He won’t be happy, but he’ll wake up.
Describe their dwelling/house: Damien now lives in a rather large house, almost bordering on mansion sized. More than once he has gotten lost inside the ornate house, just exploring all the old fashioned rooms that look as if the last owner was Jay Gatsby himself.
Describe their bedroom: Damien’s third floor bedroom is as ornate as the rest of his house. The large interior is dominated by the four poster bed that is rarely used, and the massive oak desk that is never used. A hidden door leads to a closet that is far too big for the few items of clothing Damien possesses, and another door leads to a private bathroom. The door that is by far used the most often, however, is the one that leads down a winding path to the exercise room.
Describe their daily rituals: Wake up, dress lightly (no shirt, no shoes), go for a short, 10 km jog, come back, weightlift, bathe, prepare for the start of the day.

How self-confident is the character?: Quite. No matter the situation, Damien is confident that he’ll always be able to come out on top. Even if he was swallowed by a whale, Damien would trust himself to come out the other end clean, covered in the gold from some old galleon.
How do they see him/herself?: While Damien sees himself as powerful, and knows that he is willing to go to any length to achieve his goals, he also knows that he always falls just short of where he wants to be, despite his own self-confidence.

Biggest regret: Damien feels guilty that he doesn’t really want to do much with his life, despite the fact that he has so many resources at his disposal now. It makes him feel like he’s just another one of those rich ne’r-do-wells who do nothing but party all night and nurse hangovers all day.

• Place: There’s this river nested in the heart of the mountains, a little off the beaten path from Leadville, Colorado. It leads all the way down to the base of the mountain, and every square inch of it is teeming with fish. As a child, Damien loved nothing more than just taking his fishing rod, sitting down, and just listening to the brook babble as the day passed.
  
• Room in the house and why: Damien loves the topmost balcony, as no one ever goes up there, so it’s nice and quiet for when he just wants to escape, and it is just beneath the stars, high enough that it seems that you could almost grab one.

• Clothing: Suits. Ugh. They are horrible and restrictive. It’s almost like you’re not expected to even breathe in them. Maybe that’s how wearers got the name ‘stiffs.’

Describe character's sense of morals: Damien has a rather rigid and old fashioned sense of morals. He was raised to always be chivalrous, helping out a woman in need, putting the desires of others before himself, and above all else, making sure that he left a place or a person in better condition than when he arrived.
What do they consider taboo: While Damien is not above killing in self-defense, he will do everything in his power to keep his opponent alive, and will physically feel ill if he is forced to kill. He also subconsciously holds back when fighting a woman, and has to force himself to make a strike hit. Finally, Damien becomes physically ill even at the thought of breaking his word, and will do anything to avoid it.
Describe character's etiquette: Damien is chivalrous to a fault, helping out all those in need, and always saying please and thank you. Though he may seem a rough sort of fellow, Damien truly does care about nearly everyone, and tries to help out wherever he can. He might not be right all the time, but he will never stop trying.

How does this character act in public?: It depends on the public. Among 90% of the population, Damien is carefree, happy-go-lucky, and chivalrous as they come. This is his true persona, the person he really is. With his family however, and all the upper crust that comes with those connections, Damien is reserved, trying to please his family, yet internally hating every minute of it.

How has it affected them?: It’s made him a bit more accepting of things he can’t control, but it has also taught him to value everything and to never take anything for granted.

• Conflict/Danger: Damien is remarkably calm in danger, relying on his skills and ability to get him out of trouble.
  
• Rejection: Damien’s happy-go-lucky attitude is rather useful here, as it allows him to overcome rejection rather quickly. The nice part is that Damien usually still has adrenaline flowing due to the courage to ask a girl out at rejection time, so that helps dull the blow a bit.
  
• Fear: If it’s a minor fear, like spiders or snakes, Damien will declare a full jihad on that fear, and will not stop until he has wiped it from the face of the earth. However, if he is facing an inferno, Damien will freeze up, becoming completely useless, before trying everything in his power to flee. • Change: Damien is remarkably adaptable to change, though like with all people, it depends on what has changed and to what extent. For trivial changes, Damien will usually just flow right over it as if things had always been that way, but should it be something major, Damien will become somewhat reticent as he figures out some way to adapt to his new way of life.
  
• Loss: Loss hits Damien harder than most, as he knows the pain from losing something close to you, and deeply emphasizes with that pain. However, if he himself has suffered the loss, he will probably shunt it to the back of his mind until he is alone, when he can properly grieve.

• Being wrong: Damien is quite used to being wrong, so he really has no problems with it. He’ll apologize and try to learn from there on.
  
• Being criticized: Like stated previously, Damien would far prefer to learn than to stick his head under a rock. Even if the criticizer is being spiteful, Damien will try to see the truth behind their statements and improve himself from them. This isn’t to say he isn’t human- it will take a moment for him to swallow his pride, like anyone else would.
  
• Being insulted: Superficial insults such as name calling and the like will roll over Damien like oil over water. However, a direct insult to his master or his martial art will stir Damien into a frenzy, and he will not stop until he has proved the offender deadly wrong.
  
• Offending others: Damien would never intentionally try to offend another being, and would begin to feel guilty at doing so- unless he’s in a fight. Then it’s just a tactic to enrage his opponent.
  
• Praise: Like most people, Damien always enjoys praise, though he tries to deny it. Unless the praise is from his master or a close friend, however, he most likely won’t let it go to his head.
  
• Being loved: Damien’s reaction to being loved is a kind of exultant fear. He is overjoyed that there are such people that care so deeply for him, but at the same time he is terrified at the debt that means he owes them and how much they mean to him, and would be devastated if he should lose them.
  
• Being hated: Damien would feel mostly sorrow at this, that there is someone who hates what he is, but this event would probably affect him least of all among the list. Someone hated is just someone to fight.
  
• Humiliation: If it’s a small humiliation, like a personal screwup or a public rejection, Damien will probably laugh it off, thinking about how ridiculous he had been to get in that situation. Should he be humiliated in a fight however, he will quickly become desperate, looking for any chance to turn the tables or somehow get the upper hand.

• Fear: If it’s a minor fear, like spiders or snakes, Damien will declare a full jihad on that fear, and will not stop until he has wiped it from the face of the earth. However, if he is facing an inferno, Damien will freeze up, becoming completely useless, before trying everything in his power to flee. In this second case, Damien cannot differentiate between friend and foe, and will attack anyone and anything that gets in his way.

How does the character imagine his/her own death?: Damien has two visions of his death. Version one has him dying in a bed, surrounded by all those he had loved in life. Version two is him dying on a battlefield, his enemies in tatters before him, he himself only dying because of the myriad wounds inflicted upon him, and even then, he dies on his feet. Damien is still unsure which future he desires more.

Why?: Nothing motivates Damien more than hope, that little light at the end of the tunnel. As long as there’s a chance, Damien will fight with every last fiber of his being.

Why?: Losing feels like he’s let down his master, the man he respects most in this world, and Damien trusts his friends with his life. If one of them were to betray him, Damien doesn’t know how he’d react.

Why?: It’s the small pleasures in life. There’s little more fun than just hanging out with friends, and Damien loves his martial art. And the days that Damien can afford to do nothing are few and far between indeed.

Why?: Damien loves his sleep, and being taken away from it will make him rather irritated. More importantly, though, Damien tries to be kind to everyone, and having someone return that kindness with hatred- or even worse, losing his temper and causing a friend to snap at him- will depress him.

Why?: Both of them deeply attack his sense of pride, and wound him in a way a spear never could. And if you harm someone he likes, may all of heaven have mercy on you, for he will not.
What humiliates this character?: Being toyed with, someone deeply wounding his pride. Otherwise, someone harming a friend he has sworn to protect. Anything that forces him to break his word.
What most describes this character's personality?: The best word to describe his personality would be happy-go-lucky.
Psychoanalysis: Damien most likely acts how he acts because he has realized that life is short, and that for all we do to fight it, we are all going to disappear from this world eventually. Therefore, he reasons, we should take our time and enjoy it while we have it. Why be angry? It’s like punishing yourself for another’s stupidity. However, Damien is still mortal, and suffers from all that mortality entails. He still gets angry, and often has to beat down his bloodthirsty urges. These seem to be hereditary, as he is directly related to the infamous Gilles de Rais. While this part of him loves going wild and destroying all that challenges him, Damien dislikes it and often tries to challenge it himself, with all his might.

Best Friends: Eve Fahri, the little girl his father died protecting all those years ago. She was always the one that Damien thought he could tell anything to, no matter what happened. They always had each other’s backs throughout the years.
Friends: David Hull. The two got in a fistfight for their first meeting, and both had given up at the same time, lying on their backs, exhausted. They had been friends from that moment onward.

Is the character judgmental of others and how so?: Not really. If a man proves himself to be rotten, then Damien will judge him as such. If a man proves himself as good, that’s how Damien will treat him. He bases his decisions far more on actions than words.

• Strangers: He’s just a naïve fool. Sure, he’s big, but he doesn’t look like he could harm a fly, much less hold himself in a fight.

Why?: Though it seems harmless, and has the power to protect, a single errant action can turn it into a tool of pure destruction.
What would this character do if confronted with someone identical in personality?: They would probably end up being best friends or rivals, depending on the mood either one of them was in when they first met.. Either way, there would be a whole lot of fighting and laughing afterwards.

Skills:
Charisma/Leadership: A normal person is a follower, someone who doesn't take charge in the situation as well as a Leader could. Someone who is proficient at Charisma/Leadership, has this air of capability about them, this confidence in their speaking, something just makes normal people want to follow their orders. These people can inspire courage, promote trust, and attain support for their actions, even from the skeptical followers.

Damage Recovery: A normal person may take a while to recover from injuries, only being assisted by nanobots when their match is over. However a person who is proficient at Damage Recovery will have an enhanced healing speed, can recover from blows and retaliate faster, and are more resilient to damage in general. Even without nanobots this person could recover from a sword wound without scarring in 2 weeks, and broken bones would mend correctly almost every time.

Lack of Fear: A person who doesn't have this is afraid of things people normally would be. Death, spiders, murderous clowns, people can be afraid of a lot of things. However, a person who has Lack of Fear is not afraid of those menial things. They may fear something more worthy of fear, but these people will respond to fear tactics with a grin and could butt heads with a demon without so much as an unwilling blink of discomfort.

Pain Tolerance: A person without this is susceptible to things that focus on causing them pain. Torture, submission holds, that kind of thing. A person with pain tolerance as a skill are able to ignore this kind of pain. That doesn't mean they don't feel pain, it means that they can ignore it.

Imitation: A person without this skill can mimic things like a normal person could. However, a person who is proficient at Imitation can pick apart moves after seeing them once or twice and use the moves they see against the original user though they forget some stuff. A person who is a master of Analysis could reverse engineer a move they are faced with and use its foundation for later moves of their own and possibly even develop it then and there. A very useful pair of skills to have.

Analysis*: The skill of looking at the details, and deducing information. A person without this skill, is about average in the ways of looking at things and making assumptions. They look at it and get the standard info one could see from it. A character who takes this skill can look at more of the info provided faster, allowing them to put together puzzle rather quickly, learn about people by examining their outfit more closely, tell from the voice whether or not someone smokes, slightly impressive things like that. In a combat situation, a person proficient at Analysis can catch on to attack patterns quickly and respond appropriately.
